Wild Woodland at Laneshaw Bridge School

At Laneshaw Bridge School, our Wild Woodland program offers all children the chance to explore, create, and learn through adventure in the natural environment. Outdoor learning develops curiosity, resilience, creativity, and teamwork, while helping pupils build practical skills, knowledge, and confidence in a safe and inclusive setting, where every child can participate and succeed.

    Learning Through Adventure

Wild Woodland is hands-on, exploratory, and accessible to all pupils, encouraging adventurous, problem-solving activities that can be adapted to different abilities:

    • Practical challenges – building dens, creating shelters, planting, and observing wildlife
    • Investigative learning – exploring ecosystems, seasonal changes, and environmental connections
    • Teamwork and reflection – working together, solving problems, and reflecting on successes and learning from mistakes

Activities are carefully sequenced to ensure that skills and knowledge are revisited and progressively developed from Early Years to Key Stage 2, supporting all learners to make progress.

    Impact and Skills Development

    Through Wild Woodland, children develop:

    • Confidence and resilience – tackling challenges safely and creatively
    • Teamwork and communication – collaborating effectively in groups
    • Critical thinking and environmental awareness – observing, reflecting, and forming opinions about nature and sustainability
    • Practical knowledge – using tools, exploring habitats, and understanding natural processes

Learning is recorded in journals, sketches, and project work, demonstrating progress for all pupils and celebrating creativity, skills, and understanding.

    Leadership and Quality Assurance

Subject leaders at Laneshaw Bridge monitor the program through lesson visits, pupil discussions, and evidence of learning, ensuring Wild Woodland delivers high-quality, ambitious, and inclusive learning experiences for every child.

Wild Woodland at Laneshaw Bridge School is more than outdoor activity – it’s an adventurous, engaging, and inclusive program that nurtures knowledge, skills, and a lifelong connection with the natural world.
