Nursery Consultation Outcome
Nursery Consultation Outcome
Thank you to everyone who took part in our consultation on the proposal to establish a school-based nursery at Laneshaw Bridge Primary School. The consultation was open from 8 June to 29 June 2026 and received 20 responses from parents, staff, governors, local residents and members of the wider community. Of those who responded, 18 (90%) supported the proposal and 2 (10%) raised concerns.
Final Decision
Following consideration of the consultation feedback and wider evidence of local need, the school and Apex Collaborative Trust have agreed to proceed with plans to establish a school-based nursery at Laneshaw Bridge Primary School, subject to the necessary approvals and funding being secured. The proposed nursery will provide 36 places for children aged 2 to 4 years, including wraparound and holiday childcare provision.
What We Heard
The consultation showed strong support for the proposal. Common themes included:
- Increased access to high-quality early years education within the local community.
- Easier childcare arrangements for families, particularly those with children already attending the school.
- Stronger transitions into Reception and improved school readiness.
- Opportunities for earlier identification and support for children with SEND.
-
The importance of flexible childcare, wraparound care and holiday provision for working families.
A small number of respondents raised concerns relating to site capacity, traffic and parking arrangements.
Our Response
The school has carefully considered all feedback received. Concerns regarding capacity and site logistics have been reviewed as part of the planning and feasibility process. The proposed nursery is intended to enhance the school's provision whilst maintaining the high standards already established across the school. The design and location of the nursery have been selected to minimise disruption to existing teaching and learning and to ensure the continued effective operation of the school. ,
Feedback regarding flexible childcare has also informed our planning, with proposals including extended opening hours and holiday provision to support local families.
How Feedback Has Been Considered
Whilst the consultation demonstrated strong community support, the school has not relied solely on consultation responses when developing the proposal. The final decision has been informed by a wider evidence base including local childcare sufficiency data, demographic trends, parental enquiries, rural accessibility challenges and the current lack of nursery provision within Laneshaw Bridge.
Next Steps
Subject to funding approval and planning permissions, the current proposal is for the nursery to open in 2028. The nursery is planned to offer:
- 10 places for two-year-olds.
- 26 places for three and four-year-olds.
- Full-day, flexible and funded childcare options.
- Wraparound childcare from 7:30am to 6:00pm.
-
Holiday childcare provision.
Further information about admissions arrangements, opening dates and application procedures will be published as the project progresses.
