    Citizenship

Act as if what you do makes a difference.

    William James

At Laneshaw Bridge School, we are committed to preparing our pupils to become confident, responsible and active citizens. Through our curriculum and wider school experiences, children develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to make positive contributions to their communities and to thrive in modern Britain.

Throughout their time at Laneshaw Bridge, pupils learn how to stay healthy and safe, build positive relationships, show respect for others, and understand their rights and responsibilities. They develop resilience, empathy and independence while learning to value diversity, challenge discrimination and demonstrate our school values of Ambition, Collaboration and Trust.

Children are encouraged to take an active role in school life and the wider community. They learn to work collaboratively, solve problems, support others, resolve conflicts respectfully and develop leadership skills. Through these experiences, pupils grow in confidence and develop the character strengths needed for future success.

The development of good citizenship and strong character is woven throughout school life and is promoted through:

    • School Values
    • Charitable and Community Work
    • The APEX Champions Award
    • Pupil Ambassador Roles
    • PSHE and Relationships Education
    • Educational Visits and Wider Learning Opportunities
    • School Behaviour Expectations and Learning Habits
    • Careers Learning and Visits from Employers and Professionals
    • Family Events and Community Celebrations
    • UNICEF Rights Respecting School Initiatives
    • The Year 6 Buddy System
    • Leadership and Pupil Voice Opportunities

Through these opportunities, we ensure that every pupil is equipped with the knowledge, skills and character to become a positive citizen who can contribute successfully to society and make a difference in the world around them.
